Sustainable Westchester joined the Westchester County Executive to highlight Earth Month events and promote sustainability action in time for Earth Day.
Westchester County, N.Y. April 20, 2026 – Sustainable Westchester, which delivers clean energy solutions and environmental action to the communities of Westchester County, joined Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins to celebrate Earth Month and the success that Westchester County residents, municipalities and businesses have seen through participation in utility demand response programs via the free GridRewards app and SmartKit AI.
Sustainable Westchester partners with climate technology provider Logical Buildings to offer an energy-saving and earning program to Westchester County municipalities, residents, and businesses.
With a heat-intensive summer, electricity demand across New York and Westchester reached its highest point since 2020, reinforcing once again that flexible response strategies are crucial to providing support for the grid. In 2025, demand response reductions taken by electricity users accounted for approximately 6% of total peak usage. With increasing uncertainty brought on by extreme weather and global events, grid reliability will play an important role in meeting existing and future needs. Demand response efforts like Sustainable Westchester’s partnership on GridRewards and SmartKit AI programs provide an opportunity for small energy users and commercial buildings to actively reduce energy while saving and earning money.
The GridRewards app pays residential consumers to lower their energy consumption during periods of extremely hot weather when people typically crank their air conditioners and electricity demand spikes. In 2025, the average GridRewards participant earned $82.50, with the highest residential user earning more than $1,000. GridRewards users across Westchester County earned $308,000 for their participation Through Logical Buildings’ commercial program, SmartKit AI, users earned $260,000, with the top commercial user, the City School District of New Rochelle, earning more than $107,000. In total, Westchester County municipalities, businesses, and residents earned $570,000 from demand response with Logical Buildings.
ConEdison-serviced municipalities, businesses, and residents are all eligible to participate in GridRewards. Those interested in joining GridRewards should download the app and sign up by April 30 to receive maximum benefits in 2026.
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins said: “Westchester is committed to advancing environmental goals, while cutting energy costs, and programs like GridRewards are the key to both. We are proud to continue our partnership with Sustainable Westchester so that every resident of our county is empowered to take positive action.”
“Westchester residents continue to show their commitment to clean energy with their record participation in GridRewards,” said Sustainable Westchester Interim Executive Director Tom Watson. “This Earth Day, we know we face challenges with both extreme weather and global events – but we can take meaningful action, and save some money, right here in our own communities.”
David Klatt, President of Logical Buildings, said: “GridRewards gives every program participant a simple, user-friendly tool to take charge of their energy use, save money, and cut emissions. We invite the residents and businesses of Westchester County to join thousands of neighbors in enrolling in time for Earth Day.”
