Westchester County Municipalities, Businesses, and Residents Earned More Than $400,000 Through the Energy-Saving Logical Buildings’ Programs in 2024

Westchester County, N.Y. April 17, 2025 – Sustainable Westchester, which delivers climate solutions to the governments, businesses, organizations, and people of Westchester County, joined Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins and other County leaders to celebrate the start of Earth Month and the success that Westchester County residents, municipalities and businesses have seen through participation in utility demand response programs via the free GridRewards app and SmartKit AI

Sustainable Westchester partners with climate technology provider Logical Buildings to offer an energy-saving and earning program to Westchester County municipalities, residents, and businesses. The GridRewards app pays residential consumers to lower their energy consumption during periods of extremely hot weather when people typically crank their air conditioners and electricity demand spikes. In 2024, GridRewards users across Westchester County earned $203,446 for their participation, with the highest residential user earning more than $600. Through Logical Buildings’ commercial program, SmartKitAI, users earned $202,894, with the top commercial user, The City School District of New Rochelle, earning more than $70,000. In total, Westchester County municipalities, businesses, and residents earned $403,340 from demand response with Logical Buildings.

Users’ combined efforts reduced energy consumption by 7MW, enough electricity to instantaneously power 25,000 homes. Con Edison-serviced municipalities, businesses, and residents are all eligible to participate in GridRewards. Those interested in joining GridRewards should download the app and sign up by April 30 to receive maximum benefits in 2025.

Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins said: “In these challenging times, with chaos and confusion at the federal level, it is more important than ever for us to partner with leaders like Sustainable Westchester on the local level. Programs like GridRewards are a win-win: using less electricity during peak times takes the strain off the grid, and it puts money into Westchester County residents’ pockets.”

“The clean energy transition can provide a better, more just future with opportunities for all Westchester residents. To help ensure that comes to fruition, we have to do what we can here at the local level,” said Sustainable Westchester Executive Director Noam Bramson. “At Sustainable Westchester, we offer programs and services that help Westchester municipalities, residents, and businesses make the world a healthier place. GridRewards is a great example of a simple action that can make a major impact.”

David Klatt, President of Logical Buildings, said: “We’d like to thank all of Westchester County for their active participation in demand response through GridRewards. The app enables small energy users and businesses across the County to take energy-efficient actions that yield financial benefits and environmental impact. Together, we’re fostering a cleaner, more resilient energy future, and we look forward to an even greater impact in the 2025 season!”

“This is the 55th anniversary of the first Earth Day, which provides a great opportunity to celebrate our progress and recommit to goals so that we can achieve a sustainable future for oncoming generations,” said Lauren Brois, Director of Building Decarbonization Programs at Sustainable Westchester. “We know climate change, biodiversity loss, extreme weather events, and environmental injustices are key issues for our time. This Earth Month, we’re reminded of our potential to create change for the better and that small changes, like signing up for GridRewards, can make a big difference.”
