Rachel Carpitella

Rachel Carpitella is a sustainability trailblazer with fifteen years of experience developing and implementing climate action for municipalities, schools, and businesses. In her role with Sustainable Westchester, she directs the Commercial HeatSmart campaign, notably coordinating a sold-out municipal-led developer meeting and securing $300,000 of NYSERDA funding for 2020/2021. Rachel also leads the Green Business Partnership’s business development through strategic partnerships to exponentially reduce the private sector’s greenhouse gas emissions.

For more than three years, Rachel served as sustainability department leader with Greenburgh Nature Center where she launched multiple initiatives for which she received prestigious awards. Previous to that, she directed NYPIRG’s clean energy community outreach campaigns in the Hudson Valley and on Long Island. She established a new outreach territory, trained hundreds of advocates, and had conversations about climate change with thousands of her neighbors.

Rachel sits on Westchester County’s Climate Crisis Task Force and was part of the County’s Food Waste Stakeholder Group. She lives on Long Island, NY with her husband, James, and their daughter, Meadow.
